MINNEAPOLIS, MN SEPT 13, 2017: Indeed Brewing is excited to announce that its Mexican Honey Imperial Lager has won a bronze medal in the Specialty Honey Beer category in the 2017 European Beer Star Awards. The European Beer Star competition was held in Gräfelfing, Germany, just outside Munich early last month.
“Winning in one of the most prestigious beer competitions in the world and sharing the stage with so many brewers that we look up to is an incredible honor,” says Indeed Co-Founder Tom Whisenand. “Mexican Honey is a shining example of our brewing staff's dedication to quality, consistency, and innovation. I couldn't be more proud of our incredible team here at Indeed.”
The 2017 European Beer Star competition had a record number of 2,151 entries from 46 countries. The contest was highly competitive, with only 8.5% of total entries being awarded medals. Launched 14 years ago, the competition has become incredibly well respected within the international brewing industry. Each beer is judged in a blind tasting for color, aroma, and flavor by a 133-person international jury that consists of master brewers, cicerones, and renowned beer connoisseurs. Sixty categories of beer were judged in this year’s competition. Last year’s winners included many well known European breweries, as well as notable American breweries such as Oskar Blues, Firestone Walker, Allagash, Deschutes, and Sierra Nevada.
Mexican Honey Imperial Lager is brewed with Amarillo hops and 450 lbs of Mexican orange blossom honey per 30 barrel batch. One of Indeed’s best selling beers, it has received multiple awards, including a Silver Medal for Specialty Honey Beer at the Great American Beer Festival in 2014 and Gold Medal for Best Honey Lager in the National Honey Board’s Honey Beer Competition in 2017.
Indeed Co-Founder Whisenand, as well as Head Brewer Josh Bischoff and Lead Brewer Dan Stavig, are in Germany today to attend the award ceremony at drinktec, the world’s leading trade fair for the beverage industry. Whisenand, Bischoff, and Stavig will tour the trade fair later this week.
Consumers can find Mexican Honey on store shelves and tap towers throughout Minnesota, North Dakota, and parts of Wisconsin through September. Grab some before it’s gone, as the next wide release of the Imperial Lager won’t be until March of 2018.
