Today we’re popping the tab on a a new can from Indeed Brewing; Shenanigans Summer Ale. This beer took 1st place in the wheat beer category in the 2016 Honey Beer Competition (as well as Silver for Best In Show) and I think you’ll see why when you taste it. Shenanigans is Indeed Brewing’s “ode to the summer season” and they’ve also packaged it in the perfect summer delivery mechanism….12oz cans.
Shenanigans is brewed with pale malt, white wheat and torrified wheat as well as Lemondrop hops and local honey, and I think you’ll find the combination as interesting and satisfying as I do.
Shenanigans pours a light straw/golden hazy color with loads of citrus and lemon aromas. The sweet and dull honey stays in the nose but the citrus dominates (in a good way). You’ll have no doubt that this is a wheat beer in your very first sip. There are lots of soft and dry wheat flavors up front with a nice punch of lemon and citrus from the Lemondrop hops at the end. The sweet honey lingers nicely in the background and the beer finishes dry and satisfying. The combination and balance makes for a really drinkable beer and a set of flavors and mouthfeel that will make you want another (so don’t just buy one!).
We really enjoyed the flavors and balance of Indeed Brewing Shenanigans Summer Ale and the only improvement I can imagine, is pulling one out of the cooler on the beach. (I’ll test that theory and let you know.) A big thank you also to Indeed for the cool Shenanigans-labeled lip balm and sticker
Shenanigans is available now through August in 12oz cans and the beer hits the perfect sessionable AbV of 5%. The Lemondrop hop presence belies the 14 IBU, but I think that’s because the overall package really works well and feels hoppier thanks to the dry finish. Get out there and try an Indeed Brewing Shenanigans Summer Ale, and when you do, be sure to let us know what YOU think.
This from Indeed:
A warm day, great friends and a good beer—It doesn't get any better. In that spirit we present Shenanigans Summer Ale, our ode to the season. Brewed with Lemondrop hops, regionally produced honey, and white wheat, Shenanigans Summer Ale has a zesty, citrus aroma, refreshingly dry body and notes of honey. So on those long, hot days, remember: summer is time for Shenanigans.
Shenanigans took first place in the Wheat Beer Category of the National Honey Board’s 2016 Honey Beer Competition, and received a Silver Metal for Best in Show. Our Summer Ale also claimed the title of Best Wheat Beer in The Growler magazine’s reader-nominated 2016 Kind of a Big Deal Awards. Shenanigans Summer Ale is available now through September, on draft and in 12 oz. cans in 6-packs and 12-packs.
