Great Divide Releases 2nd Edition of Denver Pale Ale Artist Can Series

imageFrom Great Divide:

This June Great Divide Brewing Company will release the second edition of the Denver Pale Ale Artist Series. Each year the brewery works with a different local artist to design a can that represents what the city of Denver means to them. This year Great Divide selected John Vogl of The Bungaloo.

“I was very excited when I found out that I had been selected for this project,” said Vogl. “I watched my friend, Josh Holland, who was last year’s artist, work on the project and I imagined it would be a really fun opportunity. And it absolutely was.”

Vogl is a self-described illustrator/designer/artist based in Denver working under the nonsense studio name, The Bungaloo. He is a one man operation who creates most of his work by hand, in pen and ink. Drawing inspiration from the natural world around him, his work often features an abundance of birds, leaves, and trees. All of these details can be found in the can artwork he designed for Great Divide. While the artwork is not intended to be a representation of himself, Vogl does incorporate one personal feature into the can: his dog Loki.

The city of Denver means something different to everyone, including everyone at Great Divide. This series provides an opportunity to showcase different perspectives of the culture and lifestyle of the city through the artistic eye of those who live here. Vogl used this opportunity to create a can that looked and felt like summer in Colorado. The new colorful artwork plays off of existing Great Divide packaging with silhouetted icons and bold designs, while at the same time boasting John’s own signature, artistic style.

“To me, craft beer is equal parts social activity and artistry. The entrepreneurial spirit of craft breweries and the opportunity they have to experiment and create is inspiring, and I hope that can be seen in this can design,” said Vogl.

Available nationwide, the Denver Pale Ale Artist Series is an ode to the city the brewery has called home for the past 23 years. The series was created as a way to commemorate the brewery’s expansion into the RiNo Art District alongside the release of Denver Pale Ale in cans.  Every June a fresh Denver Pale Ale package will be released, exhibiting artwork created by a new Denver artist.

Denver Pale Ale is an American Pale Ale that opens with big citrus pine notes, then smooths out with a faint toasted malt character and dry, slightly bitter finish. This beer is your go-to beer from city to trail and back again, no matter what the time or season.
