(FORT COLLINS, CO ) November 22, 2016 - Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper has awarded New Belgium Brewing co-founder Kim Jordan a 2016 Colorado Governor’s Citizenship Medal (CGCM) for Growth and Innovation. The award is given to an entrepreneur or business leader who has “led with exceptional ingenuity and growth while inspiring and creating new possibilities for others,” according to a press release from the Governor’s office. The release went on to state that, “Kim has created one of the most innovative businesses in America through policies like employee ownership, open book management and philanthropic giving to create a model business while contributing to the community.” Inaugurated in 2015 by Executive Order and awarded on behalf of Quarterly Forum (QF), the CGCM is one of the highest honors bestowed upon Colorado residents.

“My deepest gratitude to the Governor and the Forum for recognizing the innovative work of New Belgium and me,” said Jordan, co-founder and Executive Chair of New Belgium Brewing’s Board of Directors. “It has been terrifically satisfying to devise a way of operating a business that is intellectually interesting, economically effective, and in step with the values of all of us at New Belgium.  While it appears my name will be on the medal, I accept this recognition on behalf of my 800 co-workers who teach me every day what it means to work hard, stay engaged and continue to innovate and prosper in meaningful ways.”

The Quarterly Forum is a Colorado-based leadership organization that connects, educates and inspires emerging leaders. 2016 recipients also include Fort Collins City Manager, Darin Atteberry, for Public and Community Service. Governor Hickenlooper selected this year’s winners from a group of finalists provided by the QF Board of Directors, past medal recipients and a designated selection committee.
