Tin Roof Brewing Company Announces Style of Officially Licensed LSU Beer

Baton Rouge, LA, June 23, 2016—Tin Roof Brewing Company is excited to announce the style of their officially licensed beer of Louisiana State University, Bayou Bengal, as a Premium American Lager.

In an effort to make this beer feel as local as possible, Tin Roof allowed LSU fans and members of the community to participate in a blind tasting panel to choose the style of the future Bayou Bengal beer. Fans applied to participate through a survey posted on Tin Roof’s website.

“The response was overwhelming and we were only able to include 5% of the applicants to participate in the two panels,” said Rivers Hughey, Director of Marketing and Special Events at Tin Roof Brewing Company. “The good news is that we’re going to host a pre-release party at the tap room for everyone who applied to be on the panel, so they can be the first to taste Bayou Bengal.”

Chosen participants attended a blind tasting panel on either Tuesday, June 14, or Saturday, June 18, and sampled tasters of eight different beers. They were instructed to taste each beer, write detailed notes, and circle their favorite number on the tasting sheet.

“There were no less than five distinct Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP) styles represented in the slate of eight,” said Audra Gaiziunas, CEO of Tin Roof Brewing Company. “We had a fantastic time and those who attended provided outstanding and detailed feedback.”

After thoroughly tallying up the votes and reading through the feedback, Tin Roof settled on a recipe: Premium American Lager.

This beer was the winner, by far, with comments such as “great, solid beer” and “consistent from first to last sip.”

Tin Roof plans to start brewing Bayou Bengal as soon as possible, hoping to be in the public’s hands by the first LSU football game.

UPDATE 21 July 2016:

Baton Rouge, LA, July 21, 2016—Tin Roof Brewing Company is excited to release the art work for their much anticipated Bayou Bengal Lager set to release towards the end of August.

The company worked tirelessly with LSU and Torch Creative, who has worked with numerous other universities, on the artwork for the can and 12 pack boxes.

“We think the art for the can turned out beautifully,” said Rivers Hughey, Director of Marketing and Special Events. “The tiger head has a really cool vintage feel and is so identifiable as an LSU logo.”

Tin Roof hopes to have Bayou Bengal Lager in the public’s hands by the first LSU football game on September 3, 2016.
