Mybeerbuzz.com Highlights Summit 30th Anniversary Double IPA

imageNothing says Saturday like sampling a great IPA, but when you combine Saturday with a Double IPA and when that Double IPA comes from Summit Brewing; you have the recipe for fun.

We interviewed Summit Brewing’s Head Brewer Damian McConn just a few weeks ago on the radio, and when he mentioned this beer and the fact that this beer would be heading to 16oz cans, we all got a little giddy.

Summit is celebrating their 30th Anniversary in a way any craft beer lover can get behind…..with beer!  Summit will be releasing four different 30th anniversary celebratory beers over the course of the year, and I’m excited to highlight the first…..30th Anniversary Double IPA.  Stay tuned as we will highlight the other three (30th Anniversary Keller Pils, 30th Anniversary West London-Style Ale and 30th Anniversary Barleywine) in the future.

30th Anniversary Double IPA uses six different US and New Zealand hop varieties (Mosaic, Citra, Equinox, Bravo, Orbit & Experimental hop 06300) and that fact is obvious as soon as the aroma hits your nose.  We found mango, tropical fruits and a bright citrus in the nose, bu there’s definitely more.  This beer is hop forward with an “aggressive” hop presence, but the Concerto Pale and Pale malts balance it out well.  After the great nose, I was expecting the hops to dominate, but this double IPA ends up being quite well balanced.  We also found 30th Anniversary DIPA imageto be really drinkable, but be careful there because the 8.5%-AbV will quickly sneak up on you,  The beer finishes resinous and slightly dry with another hoppy push at the end.  All in all a very nice beer and a great way to start out the 30th Anniversary series of beers (and our weekend).

Summit 30th Anniversary Double IPA will be available in 16oz cans (4-packs and 12-packs) so be sure to try it for yourself…and as always, be sure to let us know what YOU think.
