From Anheuser-Busch:
The iconic Budweiser sign that sits atop of the Bevo building is not the only sign welcoming guests and neighbors to the historic streets of Soulard anymore.
The Anheuser-Busch Biergarten recently helped install nine signs throughout entrance points to the Soulard neighborhood. The signs are cast-iron and proudly feature a star and two fleurs-de-lis, both symbols that are a common architectural motif from the era of the neighborhood’s buildings. Linda Kurdi, a local artist who also calls Soulard home, designed the custom signs.
The funds needed for this project were donated by the St. Louis Brewery and Biergarten’s 2014 brewery lights display, which brought in thousands of visitors throughout the holiday season. The Biergarten saw such overwhelming success with the holiday lights that they decided to give a portion of this year’s food and beverage proceeds back to the community.
“These new neighborhood signs are a symbol of Anheuser-Busch’s commitment and continued investment in the St. Louis community,” said Tom Kraus, director of beer category and community. “The overwhelming response we received for our brewery lights display is a testament to the support we have from the St. Louis community and beyond and this is one of the ways we wanted to give back and beautify the historic neighborhood we all share.”
In 2015, brewery lights partnered with the Cardinals Care foundation, which supports non-profit youth organizations in the area through funding health, educational, recreational, mentoring and arts programs. Through encouraging visitors to contribute to the organization throughout the holiday season, Anheuser-Busch collected $1,000 in donations from the community and donated $12,000 on behalf of The Biergarten.
The neighborhood signs and contribution to Cardinals Care will act as a constant reminder of the lasting relationship between Anheuser-Busch and the St. Louis community.
