Ignite (ĭg-nīt′) v. – To arouse the passions of; excite.
For Head Brewer Evan Rouse, this happened during Bockfest of 2013. Since he began homebrewing in 2008, there had been many medals, awards, and learning experiences. 2013’s Bockfest proved to be a little different.
Cincinnati’s Bockfest Homebrew Competition carries the weight of the local homebrewing community’s hard work, respect, and determination. For Evan, that meant brewing a beer with the hard work, precision, and determination he had been perfecting since he began in a garage on Braxton Drive in Union, Kentucky. It was his Maibock that he entered into the competition. And it was that Maibock that won “Best of Show.”
For him, it was an Ignitor.
Ignitor (ig·ni′tor) n. – a device used to trigger an explosive reaction.
From there, a spark was created. An explosive reaction. A dream that began in a small garage became a passion. An entrepreneurial obsession. A business plan was written, a team was built, construction was completed and along the way there have been many points of ignition. Three years after winning Best of Show, Braxton Brewing Company is releasing our next seasonal — Ignitor Maibock.
This traditional German Maibock will be tapped on Friday, February 26th leading into Bockfest in March. We can’t wait for you to try this beautiful lager.

Ignitor has an underlying malt complexity as well as a faint caramel sweetness. A German noble hop presence along with a subtle alcohol warmth round this beer out to be a pleasant bock. The flavor will feature a maltiness, primarily from pilsner malts, and a relativity high bitterness to balance the alcohol. It will be the perfect lager to enjoy during Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky’s Bock season.
Being tapped at 5:30 on the 26th, you can join us in the taproom or look for the beer becoming available in the Greater Cincinnati area at your favorite restaurant or bar.
This is the next step in our journey – an ode to where it all began and an ignitor for our future. We know you’ll enjoy it and we can’t wait to lift one to life with you.
