San Diego, California (February 5, 2016) — For the past 16 years, imbibing enthusiasts looking for the most trustworthy information and reviews on beers spanning the globe have relied on the bank of ever-growing information on RateBeer.com. Regarded as the Internet’s foremost beer-rating site, RateBeer.com recently held its inaugural RateBeer Best Awards Ceremony and Beer Festival in Santa Rosa, Calif. on January 30-31. That celebration included a ceremony at which the top breweries for each U.S. state were named along with planetary overall rankings and awards for best beers in the world. San Diego-based AleSmith Brewing Company took top honors as the best brewery in California, following that up by ranking second place in the entire world for calendar year 2015. These honors came as a result of great showings by several of the company’s beers in a wide array of styles highlighted by a whopping four wins in the Strong Stout categories.

“Humility is a highly valued quality here at AleSmith. We love our beers, but prefer to let fans of craft beer do the talking when it comes to our family of ales. So it’s particularly gratifying to receive such incredible accolades from a consistently reliable, fan-driven entity like RateBeer,” said AleSmith Owner, CEO and Brewmaster Peter Zien. “We’re all about honoring traditional recipes while introducing bold sensory experiences tempered by balanced textures and overall flavor profiles. This is a big part of what RateBeer’s crowd appreciates, so it is rewarding to see they feel we are doing right by them.”

AleSmith has fared well on RateBeer historically, winning Top Brewer in the World three times and remaining within the top ten for more than a decade. Currently, the company has dozens of 100-point beers on the site—IPA, Double IPA (formerly Summer YuleSmith), Double Red IPA, Evil Dead Red Ale, Reforged, multiple versions of its Old Numbskull Barleywine, Speedway Stout and Wee Heavy, and five editions of its annually changing Decadence Anniversary Ales. It’s the strength of those ratings that fueled another solid showing by AleSmith this year.

RateBeer’s top brewers in the world are tallied according to a summary score based on all available reviews. The summarization is based on 10 different weighted scales that place reviews on the past year and top performing beers but also includes historical all-around performance, a brewer’s range of performance across styles, and other factors to compare newer and older, larger and smaller brewers under a single-method process. Over 22,500 breweries were in contention for this honor.
