From Wasatch & Oskar Blues:
Salt Lake City – (January 2016) – Utah’s original brewery welcomes the newest addition to the Utah beer scene with the launch of a new session beer called Utah Blues. This new release is a collaboration between two great breweries – Squatters and Wasatch in Salt Lake City and Oskar Blues in Longmont, CO.
18 year Squatters veteran and Head Brewmaster Jon Lee and Oskar Blues old-timer and Head of Brewing Operations Tim Matthews have created a wild mash-up of flavors, utilizing a malt base with slight caramel malt profile, apple juice, ginger root, mosaic hops and fermented with a Weiss yeast, which is a yeast known for its clove like aroma and flavor. The end result has been the creation of a brand new style of beer that we are calling an Apple Ginger Hopfenweiss.
“Oskar Blues started the craft beer-in-a-can craze back in 2002”, says Lee, “and since they are going to be entering the Utah market in 2016, we thought it would be fun for Tim and I to combine our twentyplus years of brewing experience, and create a beer to welcome Oskar Blues to Utah and to kick-off the year-long party for Wasatch’s 30th anniversary in 2016. Tim’s not only a talented guy, he’s also a bit of a wild man, which I appreciate as one who loves to push the limits myself. We had a great time working together to brew this beer, which I like to refer to it as a “mutant hybrid” – a mix of flavors that capitalizes on a variety of and ingredients and processes not normally associated to produce a beer.” And what has resulted is a malty, hoppy, spicy, fruity and all-round solid sessionable beer totally in keeping with the personalities of these two crazy brothers-in-beer.
