This from Devils Backbone:
LEXINGTON, VA – Devils Backbone Brewing Company kicks off the new year with the debut of Danzig Baltic Porter, the first release in its 2016 Trail Blazer series. Danzig Baltic Porter (8% ABV) blends a rich English porter with a Germanic lager approach. Fairly robust, this strong black lager has notes of chocolate and coffee with hints of caramelized sugar.
“Baltic Porters grew out of the popularity of the strong porters and stouts exported from the United Kingdom during the 18th and 19th centuries. Baltic nations soon started to brew their own versions with a European twist. I have some Eastern European heritage, so this style of beer has a close place in my heart,” says Brewmaster Jason Oliver.
Danzig has been brewed at Devils Backbone Basecamp Brewpub since 2009, but this is the first time it has been available outside of the pub. A longtime customer favorite, Danzig is also multi award-winning garnering medals in the Baltic-Style Porter category from both the Great American Beer Festival®2013/2012 Bronze and 2009 Gold and World Beer Cup 2010 Gold.
Danzig is available in bottles and draft throughout the Devils Backbone distribution footprint in Virginia, District of Columbia, Maryland, North Carolina, Tennessee and West Virginia.
Danzig leads the Devils Backbone Trail Blazers series. Trail Blazers stray from the beaten path into a world of robust and daring beers featuring bigger, bolder flavors for fueling your spirit of adventure. Each Trail Blazer has a story of adventure that is reflected in the artwork on the bottle and six pack. The Danzig adventure is:
Imagine yourself stepping out of the pilothouse onto the pitching deck of a merchant ship plunging through the frigid Baltic Sea night. Squinting against the grey black horizon you spy in the distance the odd sparkle and glimmer; the far away lights of the Baltic port of Danzig are bidding you welcome. Tonight you will feast on dark rye bread and smoked pork sausage, all washed down by the famous strong black lager of the region, the Baltic-style Porter.
Devils Backbone beers are inspired by the great brewing traditions of Europe and the ingenuity of modern craft brewing. Devils Backbone has earned numerous accolades for its beers, exceling in the art of lager brewing in an ale dominated industry. The brewing team has received medals from the World Beer Cup, Australian International Beer Awards, Virginia Craft Brewers Fest and the Great American Beer Festival®including national titles for GABF 2014 Mid-Sized Brewing Company and Brew Team of the Year, 2013 Small Brewing Company and Small Brewing Company Brewer of the Year and 2012 Small Brewpub and Small Brewpub Brewer of the Year.
