Deschutes Brewery Wins Oregon Sustainability Award

From Deschutes:

Deschutes Brewery was honored with a 2015 Oregon Sustainability Award in the Business Category; presented at a luncheon last week during the Northwest Environmental Conference & Tradeshow in Portland, Oregon. The Governor's Sustainability Awards in Oregon are intended to promote and advance the inclusion of sustainable practices in government and the private sector.

The Bend-based craft brewery received the award for its sustainability practices, led by a team committed to ensuring the company uses fewer resources, while simultaneously maintaining a productive and healthy workforce, and creating lifelong fans. The company actively seeks out opportunities to positively impact communities in Oregon and beyond, including:

  • Annual restoration of one billion gallons of water into the Deschutes River every year to offset water usage
  • Donation of $1 per barrel of beer sold to charities throughout its distribution area to help fulfill the goal of building a healthier society
  • New Street Pub program which set up a 402-foot-long bar for one day in communities around the country and donated 100 percent of proceeds to charity, raising a total of $400,000 in its first year
  • Sustainable practices and ongoing improvement in areas such as recycling, energy efficiency, water usage and waste management
