18 Nov 2015:  Here’s the official press release from Sprecher:

Perennial favorite, Sprecher Brewery’s Winter Lager has new look and a new name but it remains the same esteemed Munich style Dunkel fans seek out every year. Long neck twelve ounce bottles and a six pack carrier featuring old man winter have replaced the Winter Brew pint bottle and four pack carrier. This limited edition seasonal is available now until it sells out.

Winter Lager has all the smooth dark roasted malt goodness that makes it a perfect beer for cold winter nights. “Dunkel” means dark, and the darkness is apparent in the deep mahogany color as

well as kilned malt flavors reminiscent of roasted coffee and nuts. Soft and elegant with a hint of spice, this World Beer Cup® gold medalist provides comforting contrast to winter’s occasionally harsh conditions.

“Winter Lager is our version of a classic Bavarian style lager. One of the original beers we brewed back in 1985, it is still among my favorites. If you want to experience some Wisconsin gemütlichkeit try this beer with cheese, sausage and big soft pretzels,” said Randy Sprecher, CEO and founder of Sprecher Brewing Company.
