It’s always a good day when a care package arrives from Abita Brewing Co…and an even better day when the beer they send is a sample of one of my favorite styles of beer…Saison
Abita Two Boots Saison is a collaboration brew with Birrificio del Ducato and the name refers to the boot shape of Louisiana and the boot shape of Italy, homes to both breweries. Giovani Campari helped brew the beer at Abita and this Saison features some pretty interesting and unique ingredients. Two Boots highlights local raw honey from Blood River, pink & green peppercorns and lemon balm and it also uses German Perle hops. Mix in pilsner and what malts and you have the makings of a unique saison.
The nose on Two Boots doesn’t hide the fact that this is a saison, but it’s hard to miss the lemon aromas. The flavor has a honey sweetness up front and a surprisingly dry finish. The Belgian yeast balances out the mix and the peppercorns add a slightly spicy & herbal finish. This is a really easy drinking Saison, and at 6.2%-AbV you can keep the 22oz bottle to yourself, or share it with friends.
Be sure to try Abita Two Boots Saison for yourself and let me know what you think. It’s a really nice saison and a really unique saison as well. Cheers!
