A bog thank you to Angry Orchard for sending me an early sample of their new seasonal, Summer Honey. This is Angry Orchard’s spring/summer seasonal release and it will be available through August.
Summer Honey uses American culinary apples like many of the other Angry Orchard ciders, but Summer Honey is unique because it also uses honey….and not just any honey, wildflower honey.
The aromas are sweet slightly floral and loaded with apple, and I thought the flavor was really unique for a cider. It has the softness and dull sweet flavors of honey, complimented by the crisp and clean apple tartness. There's a floral complexity and depth to this cider that I really liked. All and all it’s very refreshing and the effervescent mouthfeel makes if very drinkable.
We paired it with spicy Thai noodles for dinner and it was a really nice compliment and cut through the spice very nicely.
Angry Orchard included a really cool sample of Summer Honey Peach Preserves which worked great on our home baked wheat bread. You can really taste the family resemblance to Summer Honey cider so it was a fun pairing. I’ve included the recipe below so be sure to pick up some Summer Honey cider and make some Summer Honey Peach Preserves for yourself.
