From Crispin Cider:
In April 2015, the Crispin Cider Company will continue to delight cider drinkers with Venus Reigns, a limited-release barrel-aged pear cider.
Venus Reigns is made from Colfax golden pear wine, aged for 26 months to full maturity in specially selected red wine casks and finished with a hint of natural honey. This flavorful limited release is the first pear variety in Crispin’s six-year-old barrel-aging program.
“For years Crispin’s barrel-aged ciders have pushed the boundaries of cider flavor profiles,” said Victoria Tonini, Crispin’s signature cider creator. “With Venus Reigns we wanted to create a pear cider that would delight cider fans in an entirely new way, while still showcasing the things that make all of Crispin’s ciders so unique, like only fermenting from fresh-pressed fruit.”
Venus Reigns was inspired by ancient Greek mythology. When Prometheus throws a golden pear into the courtyard of Olympus along with the inscription, “For the most beautiful goddess,” he creates the ideal distraction. As the goddesses fight for the pear and the gods watch on, Prometheus is finally able to steal fire for mankind, and it is ultimately Venus, the goddess of love, sensuality and beauty, who wins the coveted prize of the golden pear.
