From New Belgium:
Ft. Collins, Colo., January 12, 2015 – New Belgium Brewing knows kicking back and relaxing with a session beer is about as good as it gets and the brewery’s new year-round release, Slow Ride Session IPA, offers the perfect easygoing companion. This IPA satisfies any hop lover’s craving while coming in at a sessionable 4.5 percent ABV and 40 IBUs. Slow Ride is available in bottles and on draft across New Belgium markets and it will debut in cans this March.
Slow Ride starts with a pour of sheened gold and white, fluffy foam. A blend of eight hop varieties twist together fruity scents of lemon, peach, lime and grapefruit for a tropical aroma. Target, Cascade, Nelson Sauvin and Centennial hops are added to the boil and Mosaic, Simcoe, Amarillo and Citra are featured in the dry hop process. Pale and caramel malts balance a sweet, yet clean, start with a hoppy bitterness in the back.
"The fun part about making this beer was balancing eight different hop strains into something smooth, bold and sessionable," said New Belgium Assistant Brewmaster, Grady Hull. "We pitch Cascade, Target, Nelson Sauvin and Centennial hops in the kettle and we dry hop with Mosaic, Simcoe, Amarillo and Citra. It's amazingly flavorful, and it still comes in at 4.5% abv."

To celebrate the release of Slow Ride Session IPA, a few of our coworkers thought it would be fun to make a slow motion video featuring the new beer. An afternoon was spent at the Illegal Pete’s headquarters with Denver friends, coworkers, musicians, comedians, and many others. Lots of laughs, lots of messes, a little pizza, a little beer, and a lot of body hair. Sometimes ya gotta slow it down a bit. Because everything is funnier in slow motion.
Time seems to pass way too quickly these days. I mean, it’s already 2015. We’re just as close to 2030 as we are to 2000. Weird, right?
Here at the brewery, we don’t really stop to smell the roses, because that involves stopping, and stopping means we’re not making beer. Instead, we like to slow things down…real slow. In that spirit, let me introduce you to our new year-round beer, Slow Ride Session IPA.
If you’ve been to one of our Tour de Fat events, you probably get the story behind the beer’s name. The slow ride competition, a regular feature at the festival, challenges fans to ride as slow as possible to the finish line—savor each moment of cosmic balance, so to speak. With the release of this new hoppy beer, we’re expanding on that: We’re hoping you’ll slow down the day by cracking open a few session IPAs with friends. If you have a couch bike to lounge on, even better. That’s right, we built a couch bike, because good ideas happen when you’re taking things slow.
So what exactly is Slow Ride Session IPA? For starters, it’s an easy-drinking session beer clocking in at just 4.5% ABV, which means you won’t reach your limit after just one, so take your time and enjoy a few. It’s also packed with the likes of Mosaic and Nelson Sauvin (similar to Rampant), so you can bet on a sensory overload of brilliant tropical fruit. We actually designed a new dry-hopping technique just for this beer, which pulls out a ton of hop character without adding too much bitterness. In other words, expect big aroma, big flavor, but not a huge bitter bite.
So go have a session with Slow Ride and let us know what you think.
