Marshall Brewing Releases Woody Guthrie Inspired IPA: This Machine

From Marshall Brewing:

Ok, we admit, we didn't really make a big deal out of a beer that is, well...A BIG DEAL! Just before the final holidays of 2014, a limited amount of This Machine IPA quietly made its way from the brewery across Oklahoma in 4-packs. With December already one of the busiest months of the years around the brewery, the holiday rush, and over-saturation marketing to consumers, we chose a quite, albeit successful release of This Machine IPA.

This Machine IPA is a concept years in the making.  When our friends at Lucky's on the Green asked us about having a Guthrie Green-inspired beer in January of 2012, we loved the idea but were not in a position to execute. During a brief brainstorm at the brewery we compiled several ideas for names and beers. At the top of the list were This Machine and Bound for Glory. Both are references to one of Oklahoma's favorite sons and a cornerstone of Americana, Woody Guthrie. A Belgian-style IPA using hops that would compliment the aromas and flavors created during fermentation was an easy choice for beer. This beer would take several trials to perfect, but in the spring of 2014, a few kegs of a trial batch were released to an overwhelming reception. The final piece of the puzzle was to seek permission of The Woody Guthrie Foundation to use "This Machine." In a serendipitous setting in Germany, Eric Marshall and Nora Guthrie arrived at an agreement to generously allow Marshall Brewing to use the "This Machine" mark.

We will look to establish This Machine IPA as a somewhat year round beer in 4-packs and even more limited availability on draft. Stay tuned for events related to This Machine IPA. In the meantime, visit our friends at
