We brought you a peek at Sapping Mammoth back in early Oct, and now some additional details from Maine Beer Co on both of their Half Acre collaborations:
Here at Maine Beer Company, we're all about freshness, but this notion doesn't stop at our beers. We want to keep our perspective fresh, our experiences fresh, and our relationships fresh. What better way to do so than a with a collaboration beer?
Back in May 2008, when Maine Beer Company was in its (very) beginning stages, Dan and Dave took a trip to Boston for the Craft Brewers Conference to gain some insight into the world they were about to enter. Among the crowd was a guy named Matt, another brewer trying to get his own beer company in Chicago off the ground, called Half Acre. After talking for a while, the guys realized they were experiencing the same trials and tribulations with getting a brewery up and running. The conference ended and that was that. Recently, when Maine Beer Company began distribution in Chicago, conversation sparked again with the nice guys at Half Acre Beer Company. A series of collaboration brews seemed in order.
In May 2014, Dan and Dave flew out to Chicago to participate in the first of two collaboration brews. Half Acre Beer Company and MBC have a lot in common - as Dave says we both have "an affinity for hoppy beer, and just a general passion for brewing good beer and having a good time". The major difference between Half Acre and MBC? Aesthetics. To keep things fresh and interesting, we came up with the name and the label design for the beer brewed at Half Acre. "Great Plain Jane Ale" was released on June 2nd of this year.
The second collaboration beer was brewed at Maine Beer Company on Friday, October 3rd, 2014 with the help of Matt and Gabriel from Half Acre. In fairness, the name and label were designed by the creative folks at Half Acre Beer Company. The IPA named "Sapping Mammoth" will be released in Maine Beer Company's Tasting Room on Friday, October 31, 2014
. Happy Halloween!
As the guys at Half Acre put it, "we're lifting our heads up from our work to dig into someone else's perspective and experience." It helps keep things fresh, and like we said, we're all about freshness.
