From Ballast Point & Mims:
Raleigh, NC, October 03, 2014 Mims Distributing Company, a beer distributor servicing a nine-county area in and around the Triangle, has announced the addition of San Diego, California-based Ballast Point Brewing & Spirits to its roster of brewing partners. Named California’s 2013 Distillery of the Year & World Beer Cup Gold Medal Winner for Best Small Brewery in 2010, Ballast Point started in 1992 as the backyard brewery brainchild of founders Jack White and Yuseff Cherney. Their mission is to make beer and spirits they like to drink and hope their customers do too while honoring their homebrew roots. Their passion is apparent by their attention to customer service and education. Mims Distributing will help Ballast Point increase its footprint in the Triangle’s booming craft beer industry.
Strong believers in following their passions, White and Cherney name all of their beers after one of their favorite activities—fishing. Most of Ballast Point’s brews are named after fish or fishing terms, with complementing labels featuring lively fish as a reminder to always do what you love. The brewery’s logo is a sextant, a navigational instrument used to measure a star’s angle relative to the horizon, which serves as a reminder to continue the journey and seek out new ideas, new people and new flavors to share. One of Ballast Point’s most popular brews, Sculpin IPA, has received more than 10 awards and Ballast Point Pale Ale recently won a gold medal in the 2014 Los Angeles International Beer Competition.
The Triangle has become renowned for its distinguished craft beer industry. The state boasts the largest number of craft breweries in the South—more than 100 breweries and brewpubs. The Research Triangle area is gaining national recognition for its growing beer culture and number of craft breweries.
“We are excited to add Ballast Point to our growing collection of craft beers,” said Chip Mims, CEO of Mims Distributing Company. “Ballast Point is a great brewery and we support its mission to inspire others to follow their passions as well as their dedication to the art of craft brewing. We look forward to growing Ballast Point’s coverage in the Triangle area.”
