Looks like The Hobbit has finally made it’s way into the beer world as today we get to see two MGM / New Line Cinema officially licensed beers coming from Fish Tale Ales in Olympia, WA. Up first is The Hobbit (An Unexpected Journey) Gollum Precious Pils. This Imperial Pilsner uses Northwest hops, and it will come in at 9.5% ABV and 85 IBU. Next we have The Hobbit (The Desolation of Smaug) Smaug Stout. This Imperial Stout is brewed with chili peppers and it will come in at 9.5% ABV and 65 IBU. Both of these beers will be packaged in 22oz bottles and I suspect we’ll see more so stay tuned.

Fish Brewing, Ocean Brands, LLC and BevLink, LLC are pleased to announce the Hobbit Series of Beers, a collaboration of bold imperial style beers selectively tailored to emulate the Hobbit characters – Gollum (Smeagol), the Dragon Smaug, and the vicious Orc chieftain Bolg.
Consisting of a “Precious” Imperial Pilsner with Northwest hops, a Russian Imperial Stout mildly flavored with Habanero chilis, and a smooth, Belgian style Tripel; these beers will take you on the journey of a lifetime like the characters themselves. Gollum Precious Pils: A strong Imperial Pils, with flavors as smooth and crafty as Gollum himself. Like the ring which Gollum pursued for the rest of his life, his “precious” pils, if your quest leads you to it, could extend your life too! (at least we’d like to think so) It will, at a minimum, make your journey a little more enjoyable!
Smaug Stout: Smaug Stout is styled after a classic Russian Imperial Stout, but with a subtle hint of Habanero chilis to remind you of the fire and danger awaiting you in your journey to The Lonely Mountain. Pronounced notes of Coffee and Chocolate balanced with Northwest Hops and a touch of heat produce an exceptional imperial stout, a worthy reward for your hard-fought journey. 
Bolg Belgian Style Tripel: An Orc chieftain who ruled for 150 years, Bolg would drink his grog of choice and no one would tell him otherwise – a flavorful strong Belgium Tripel. Some said it refined an otherwise gruesome character.
The Hobbit Series of Beers will start to ship the week of August 11th in 22oz single serve bottles only (12/12 oz. case).
