From Surly:
It's not a band name--we're releasing two of our seasonal beers, Pentagram and Schadenfreude soon. The release party for Pentagram, our 100% Brettanomyces Dark Ale is on Friday, May 9 at 4pm at Amsterdam Bar in St. Paul, as part of the Minnesota Craft Brewers Guild's "10,000 Minutes of Minnesota Craft Beer," Minnesota's statewide craft beer week May 5-11.
Schadenfreude, our Munich Dunkel Lager, will be released on Monday, April 18 at Old Chicago locations around the Twin Cities metro area. We're still nailing down details, so keep an eye on the interwebs for specific locations, times, etc.
Watch our Events page and Facebook page for more upcoming events and details. Check out theGuild's website to see what else is happening during 10,000 Minutes.
About Pentagram:
Pentagram is a 100% Brettanomyces Dark beer fermented in stainless and aged in used red wine barrels. "Brett" is a unique yeast strain that produces flavors that would be considered offensive if they were not intentional. Flavors of sour cherry, tobacco, oak and classic "Brett" barnyard funk balanced by Dark Munich malt chewiness. Enjoy immediately or age at cellar temperature for a couple years.
About Schadenfreude:
Schadenfreude is a German word for shameful joy, taking pleasure in the suffering of others. Utilizing German Munich, Vienna and Caramunich malts, this dark (Dunkel) lager has rich bread and toffee flavors balanced by a soft bitterness. Additional aging on toasted Minnesota oak makes Schadenfreude a one of a kind Dunkel.
New Artist:
In February, we put out a call for submissions to find this year's Surly Featured Artist. After more than 100 submissions, we are proud to announce that local Minneapolis artist Erica Williams will be the next Surly Featured Artist! Check out Erica's portfolio to see her awesome work.
Erica's going to be creating the artwork for 2014 SurlyFest, Darkness and our Ninth Anniversary brew. (Our Eighth Anniversary label is being designed by Josh Lemke, who also did 2013 Darkness and Surlyfest. That beer will be out...when it's done!)
