Summit Brewing - Repeal Day Poster 2014 Mini-Doc (Video)

From Summit Brewing:

April 7, 1933 - the day American officially repealed the Prohibition on beer (and other lighter alcohols). Though it would be another eight months before Prohibition was lifted on all types of alcohol, April 7th is a key date in the history of our American brewering industry. Every year, Summit Brewing Company celebrates this important occasion by collaborating with local Minnesota artists to tell the story of Prohibition and its repeal through a unique Repeal Day Poster.

This year Summit is proud to present a letterpress poster from Not Swords, a Twin Cities printing collective featuring Karl Engebretson and Nate Christopherson. Karl and Nate approached us with the idea to tell the story of the rise, fall and second -- and continuing -- rise of the American brewing industry through the use of carved wood blocks (or "puzzles" as Nate calls) them and lead type. The process took many hours of planning, carving, and placing the type; then two long nights of hand-pressing in the basement of the Minnesota Center for Book Arts.

We have limited quantities of this hand-signed/hand-numbers special edition poster. You can purchase it at the Summit Brewery Gift Shop:http://store.summitbrewing.com/2014repealposter.aspx
You are also invited to the Summit Beer Hall on Saturday, April 5th (6-8pm) to meet poster artists Karl and Nate in-person, talk about the poster-making process, have them sign the poster if you'd like, and raise a glass to toast 81 years of American beer since Prohibition!

  1. For some reason the link to the poster site did not work in the original blog post and the blogs that picked it up. The correct address is this one. Can you repair in your post and delete this comment?
