Sanitas & Boulder Collaborate On “Boulder Common”

From Boulder Beer & Sanitas:

Is it a California Common or an IPA? Area newcomer Sanitas Brewing Co. (founded in September of 2013) has gotten together with Boulder Beer Company (founded in September of 1979) to create Boulder Common. This unique brew merges one of the original American beer style, the California Common, with the modern India Pale Ale for a crisp, easygoing beer with a bold hop blast.

“We wanted to commemorate Boulder’s rich brewing history as well as celebrate its future,” explained Sanitas’ Chief of Brewing Operations Chris Coyne, “we fermented this beer with a classic lager yeast at higher temperatures and hit it with a big dose of New Zealand grown hops.”

Coyne, along with other Sanitas Brewing cofounder Michael Memsic, was a former brewer for Boulder Beer.

“We were really excited about the opportunity to make a beer with them at their new brewery in Boulder,” explained Boulder Beer Brewmaster David Zuckerman, “Chris and Michael are tremendous brewers and this beer is a great showcase of their abilities.”

In mid March brewers Sam Green and Tony Giordano from Boulder Beer Company spent a day with the Sanitas brew staff at their new facility. The end result is a medium bodied, straw colored lager with a bright, fruity aroma and flavors reminiscent of grapefruit and sauvignon blanc grapes. A crisp finish and firm bitterness round out the unique beer. Boulder Common will be available at Collaboration Fest in Denver on March 22 as well as on tap at both Sanitas Brewing Co. and Boulder Beer starting this weekend.
