From Troegs:
December is shaping up to be quite the month for our Scratch Beer series, as we just released a Belgian Style Brown Ale on November 27 and are also poised to release a Chocolate Raspberry Stout, and for the first time ever, a Cranberry Porter. As we mentioned in last month’s Tröegs Tales, the apocalypse is upon us once again as ¿Impending Descent? has returned for your enjoyment! Originally released as Scratch #83, this colossal Russian Imperial Stout quickly became a Tröegs Scratch Beer favorite and a legend in its own right. Released on Black Friday, you can enjoy ¿Impending Descent? on draft in our Tasting Room or fill a growler to take home to your bomb shelter or panic room. It is also available in cases and six-packs through our General Store. Please note that cases of ¿Impending Descent? are limited to one (1) per customer. Please call for availability if you are making a special trip to the brewery.
“Cans are for soup, not beer.”
The above comes from John Trogner, circa 1997. So with the first run of Perpetual IPA rolling off our canning line last week, it’s hard to think of a time when Tröegs Brewery would consider canning its handcrafted beers. Why the change of heart?
“We’d been thinking about canning for a few years, but were on the fence,” said John. “We were already in the process of ordering two new bottling lines, so it made sense from a cost and timing perspective to move forward and get the canning line.” Designed and manufactured by the Italian-based CFT Packaging, the canning line has the capacity to fill approximately 180 cans per minute, offering flexibility in the way we present Tröegs beer to the consumer. While we still feel the brown glass bottle is the quintessential vessel for craft beer, we recognize that cans are an excellent packaging alternative, especially given the active lifestyles of many craft beer drinkers.
At present time, we are easing into production of cans. Over the next few weeks, we will roll out Perpetual IPA in twelve-packs of 12oz. cans throughout our entire distribution footprint and Troegenator Double Bock in four-packs of 16oz. cans in the PA market only. For more information on the availability of Tröegs cans, please contact your local retailer or beer distributor.
