Former Harpoon 100-Barrel Bronze King Hits Bottles

We brought you a peek at this beer back in Oct, and now some additional details from Harpoon:

This is one of those beers you love to drink and dread to make. With so much time in-between when it’s brewed and when it’s bottled, there are so many things that can go wrong. We first brewed Bronze King as part of the 100 Barrel Series in 2003. To this day I’m not sure how we convinced Dan Kenary to tie up a fermenter for five months, but it was worth it!

To me, keeping the recipe simple is key to making a good barelywine. And the recipe for Bronze King is deceptively simple. We use only two types of malt and two types of hops; making sure they work together and always keeping balance in mind. Then it’s letting the yeast and time do its job. With such a high original gravity wort, a long cool fermentation makes all the difference in the drinking experience.

All the time and work paid off. This beer has great balance between the malty sweetness and the hop bittering. It’s far more drinkable than its 10%ABV would suggest. I hope you enjoy it!
