New Republic Beers Receives Cease & Desist From Luxco Bourbon Over “Bellows”

imageFrom New Republic Craft Beers:

The New Republic Brewing Co received a cease and desist letter from a law firm representing Luxco. They demand that we stop using the brand name Bellows as it is in violation of their trademark.  They claim that you, the consumer will confuse their plastic bottle bourbon with our quality craft beer.

We do not think you could be duped so easily and fought the C & D to the best of our ability.  However, we are in the position of fighting a costly lawsuit or change the name of our first-born beer.  If we had a pile of money I’d spend it on beer.  If we had two piles of money I’d spend one on beer and one fighting for our good name.

Since y’all are smart people we decided to involve you in the re-branding process.  Help us choose a new label for Bellows Texas Amber Ale.

Before you blast out original, witty & brilliant ideas I want to let you in on our naming process.  First we pick a trade-craft (stonemason, wainwright, blacksmith, etc).  Then we choose one of their tools or products to name a beer.  A blacksmith uses a bellows, architects produce skylights and a musician writes an anthem.

I want to rename it to Bellow with a depiction of someone angrily yelling at a lawyer, but you can probably do better.  So add a comment with your brilliant, original & witty name conforming to the convention above.
