Mustang Brewing Company, a craft beer producer based in Oklahoma City, is working feverishly to continue their rebuilding efforts. On May 31st, 2013, Mustang’s brewhouse near downtown Oklahoma City, called OKCity Brewing, sustained extensive damage from a tornado, making the facility inoperable.
“Losing our Oklahoma City facility was a pretty big blow to our operations,” said Tim Schoelen, company President. “We had a lot of great things planned for 2013 – new products, events, research and development, expansion, etc. This has set us back a year.”
Mustang did not let the damage slow them down for long. In July the company began construction on a new brewhouse, which will be located in their headquarters building at 520 N. Meridian Avenue in Oklahoma City. This new facility will have twice as much brew space as the previous location. It will include a tasting room, merchandise store, and event space.
“We had planned to consolidate our facilities at the end of 2013 by using new revenues from OKCity. The storm just sped things up a bit,” explained Schoelen. “After the storm damage, we had the choice of sitting with our hats in our hands lamenting our problems, or take this as an opportunity to make things bigger and better. We chose to stay positive and move forward.”
Mustang has slated December 1, 2013, as the date for the grand opening of the new facility. They had hoped to have the building operational by November 1 to celebrate the enactment of House Bill 1341, which allows Oklahoma breweries to offer samplings of their products.
Schoelen’s excitement about the new facility is apparent.
“We wanted to build a space where we could not only make great beer, but offer our fans a chance to experience what Mustang is all about. This new facility does exactly that. Folks will be able to see and hear about the brewing process first-hand, sample products, and listen to our story from the people who tell it best and with the most passion; us. There will even be event space available for special events. The December first Grand Opening launch will be the platform for some incredible things to happen in 2014!”

Rocket Fuel Set to Launch in 2014!
Say hello to the first beer in the Mustang Unbridled Series line-up, Rocket Fuel. It's an Imperial Pale Ale scheduled to launch early 2014. 9.0% alcohol by volume and 65 IBU's. You can sample it in our tasting room at Mustang Brewing HQ after December 1. We'll post more details soon!
