From Star news:
The local beer scene continues to bubble over with Carolina Beach-based Good Hops Brewing the latest to enter the field. Rich Jones will handle the brewing duties, and said components for a three-barrel system are on the way, allowing the fledgling operation to produce roughly 100-gallon batches at a time.
Several breweries will open in the Cape Fear area early next year.
The new outfit will share a number of recipes with Black Mountain’s Lookout Brewing Company, which Jones helped open with his son, John Garcia, earlier this year. Garcia came to the brewing trade several years ago, and Jones later caught the bug, his own homebrewing experiments lighting an entrepreneurial fire.
Jones, his wife Patricia and Sharon Leary are partners in the project, and hope to build a tasting room with indoor and outdoor seating in a location near the intersection of Dow Road and Harper Avenue in Carolina Beach, but a contract on the property had not been finalized. They are aiming for a March 2014 opening date, though he hinted it could be sooner if the permitting process goes smoothly.
