Costa Mesa, CA – Barley Forge Brewing Co. has received federal and city approval to operate in Costa Mesa, California’s hip SOBECA district – making it the city’s first-ever Type 23 production brewery. State approval is pending final inspection.
Barley Forge will be a 15-barrel production brewery located in a 10,000 square-foot space making many different styles of beer, primarily ales but also some lagers within the first year. Beers will be available via on-premise and off-premise accounts and at the brewery’s public tasting room.
The brewery’s President and Co-founder Greg Nylen says, “The SOBECA area is a perfect location for us, with its mixed uses and Barley Forge’s potential synergy with the businesses there.” City of Costa Mesa Commissioner Colin McCarthy agreed at Barley Forge’s Conditional Use Permit hearing, saying “It’s a square peg in a square hole.”
Barley Forge Brewing Co. plans to open in early 2014, pending final construction and staffing.
