The Wasatch & Squatters breweries picked up a couple of silver medals at the recent Great American Beer Festival.
Wasatch White Label earned a silver in the GABF judging's Belgian-Style Witbier Category, there were 66 entries in that category. Wasatch's Belgian-Style White Ale is subtly seasoned with orange peel and coriander, it's a bold beer that's refreshing and smooth. It's6% ABV.
Squatters' Fifth Element landed its silver medal in the Belgian-Style Lambic or Sour Ale category, the category had 47 entries. Fifth Element is a delightfully complex and rustic "Old World-style" Belgian farmhouse ale. It's aged in American oak barrels and bottle conditioned and is 6.75% ABV.
This isn't the first recognition for Fifth Element. It won a bronze medal in the 2012 World Beer Cup (Belgian-Style Sour Category), a gold medal in the 2011 Great American Beer Festival (Belgian-Style Lambic or Sour Ale Category), a gold medal in the 2010 The Festival of Wood and Barrel Aged Beer (Wild Beer Category), and a bronze medal at the 2008 Great American Beer Festival (American-Style or German-Style Sour Ale Category). That’s a load of accolades.
The 2013 GABF medals bring the totals for the two breweries to 17 World Beer Cup medals and 28 GABF medals. That is another load of lofty recognition.
A number of beers from Squatters and Wasatch breweries are now available in Colorado, the attached press release has the details. Holler if you’d like more information or beer samples.
Speaking of GABF (and on a personal note), like so many GABF attendees I’ve had the great pleasure over the years of meeting many of my heroes at the fest. This year was no exception for me. See the attached photo of my highlight encounter at this year’s event.
