From Karl Strauss:
Karl Strauss Brewing Company has been turning people onto quality, handcrafted beer since 1989 and for the first time in the company’s history, it is opening the doors to its main brewery in Pacific Beach. The tasting room will open to the public this Saturday, July 27, at 12pm. “We are thrilled to pull back the curtain and let people in to our new tasting room to experience our wide variety of award-winning beers right where they are brewed,” says Paul Segura, Brewmaster, Karl Strauss Brewing Company. The tasting room is nestled at the base of the Rose Canyon bike trail and features a 20-tap custom built bar and spacious, ocean-friendly outdoor beer garden.
Karl Strauss’ new tasting room is designed to be the heart and soul of the company’s brewery and showcase the unique character of the converted greenhouse turned production facility. The tasting room will be the only place fans can try 20 Karl Strauss beers on tap at once, including specialty releases, brewery-only limited batches, and all the tank tap beers pulled from the brewery restaurants. “Our vibe is simple. Good people. Good beer. We want people to experience first-hand the character of our beer, our people, and our brewery,” says Segura.
The space design and build out was led by Karl Strauss’ Creative Projects Manager, Melissa Dombo, in collaboration with Public Architecture and Urban Construction. The layout allows guests to see into the quality control lab, watch the bottling line run, and peer up into the brew house. “We wanted to make the space feel like an extension of the brewery so we used a lot of concrete, stainless steel, and reclaimed wood,” says Dombo. “The idea was to let people look into the brewery and see our crew in action.” The tasting room is rounded out by custom-made reclaimed wood furniture, new merchandise, beer-to-go sales, and plenty of parking for cars and Rose Canyon cyclists.
