It was nice to take a little breather today and simply just feature a beer. We’ve been rocking & rolling with some great guests, including Sam Calagione last week, so it was time to just get together with the Friday BeerBuzz crew & simply enjoy a beer.
Today we decided to reach across the Atlantic and into Belgium to feature a beer. We chose St. Feuillien Saison for several reason. First off it’s a classic Belgian style, a classic Belgian brewery, a really unique new can package…but most of all…it’s a really great beer.
Of course it was fun working out the pronunciation…and in any case, Brasserie St. Feuillien dates back to the 7th century when an Irish monk name Feuilien came to Europe to preach the gospel. Bad news for Feuillien is that he was be-headed as a martyr in 655, but good news is his disciples erected a Chapel in his name, which ultimately became the Abbaye St. Feuillien.
Brasserie St. Feuillien is know for it’s pure water and 1st class ingredients, and after one taste of this Saison, you’ll understand how important that is. This beer is slightly tangy, with the classic yeasty flavor of a traditional Saison. French for “Season”, these classic Saisons come from the Wallonia region of France and they date back to the days when beer was produced for farm workers to supplement potable water. This modern day brew is packaged in the new 11.2oz slim cans from St, Feuillien, and at $11.99 for a four-pack, it’s a great deal on a really great beer. Try it for yourself!
Thank you to Nancy, John & Joe for yet another
fun Friday.

4 years of Spanish here so I'll go with the phonetic pronunciation: San Foo Yawn Say Sohn? Close enough for government work! lol
ReplyDeleteSt. Feuillien Saison is one of the better saisons I can recall tasting. Saison yep, but subtly earthy, clovey, and banana-y. (?)
A really fun show today. Don't miss the video!
Our thanks to Industrial Light and Zubris for the special effects and pyrotechnics.
Thanks too, to Bill from MyBeerBuzz.com, and as always, thank you for listening!
Best,

I really like this beer but I have always been embarassed to order it since I can't say the name. I also didn't know it was in cans. Cool show and thanks for the pronunciation. Jeremy

ReplyDeleteNow I finally know how to say it!

ReplyDeleteSt Feuillien is really an exceptional Saison. I really love the flavor and now that it's in a can I will probably buy more for outdoor activities too. Cheers Bill! Jessup
ReplyDeleteSaison in cans seems sacrilegious. Arty
ReplyDeleteOnly BEFORE you drink one Arty
ReplyDeleteOK now you added another beer I need to try. I guess I have to :)\\
ReplyDeleteChris
I still think canning a beer like a Saison is a disservice to craft beer. Steve
ReplyDeleteYou guys always make me laugh. I love the video too. Cheers to beer fun.
ReplyDeleteMartin J
I'd love your job please?

I really enjoyed Sam Calagione last week. It just goes to show you how far the WILK show has come. I also really like the shows without a guest on because you all seem to get to chat more and I really like beer chatter. Cheers

Thanks everyone. We have a great time on every show, guests or otherwise. It is fun to relax a little and not have to worry about a phone call or in-studio guest, but they're all fun.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it can be can-conditioned.
ReplyDeleteI heard you live. Did you know they went to a National Weather Service warning? Brad
ReplyDeleteYes Brad. It was near perfect timing. Right as we went out with our music it hit. Apparently mother nature and the NWS love the WILK Friday BeerBuzz!
