From Seacoast On-line:
The ordinance is most popularly known as the "microbrewery ordinance" because the new language means that famed Seacoast brewer Todd Mott will be able to open a microbrewery in town. However, it now also allows bakeries, coffee roaster houses, brew pubs and other specialty food/beverage facilities.
Councilors unanimously supported the changes to the ordinance, thereby adding them to town code. Such land uses were previously not defined in the code.
A microbrewery could have been permitted as a wholesale, manufacturing or agricultural production use, but the amendment will allow Mott and other similar ventures to locate in the business or commercial zones, rather than in the manufacturing or industrial parts of town.
Mott has been weighing his options since announcing last July he was leaving his post as head brewer at the Portsmouth Brewery. His resume includes many signature beers, including Kate the Great, a Russian Imperial Stout that was ranked No. 2 in the world and Best Beer in America by Beer Advocate Magazine in 2006.
