Chicago, IL  May 08, 2013/mbb/ - Finch’s Beer Company’s Threadless IPA is the gold medal winner in the IPA category at this year’s World Expo of Beer, Michigan’s largest international beer sampling event, set to take place on the weekend of May 17, 2013.

IPA was the largest category in the competition with 56 entries. With 14,000 guests estimated to be attending the World Expo of Beer, this award is an extraordinary honor. Winning silver was Dark Horse’s highly rated Crooked Tree IPA and newcomer Crankers’ Professor IPA took the bronze.

Double blind judging was performed by Beer Judge Certification Program-ranked judges, including one master judge. Judging criteria was strictly based on style guidelines, including aroma, appearance and flavor. This is Finch’s first win and first entry in the competition.

“In a state with over 100 breweries and a fierce ‘drink local’ mentality, this is a great step forward for our brand,” Jonathan Cole, Finch’s Michigan regional accounts and events coordinator, said. “Just being nominated alongside names like Dark Horse really is an honor and to win gold is a great chance to get our beer in front of a whole new group of people.”

The World Expo of Beer will take place at Frankenmuth's Heritage Park from 5-10 p.m. on May 17 and 3-10 p.m. on May 18.
