Speakeasy Ales Launches in Chicago With River North

(San Francisco, CA) – Speakeasy Ales & Lagers is preparing to launch distribution in Chicago this May, making Illinois the 8th state to offer beers from the San Francisco-based craft brewery.

Speakeasy has partnered with River North Beer as the exclusive distributor for the Chicagoland area. This will be the brewery’s first entry into the Midwest, and part of a continued expansion that will see the brewery grow to over a dozen new markets in 2013. With such a rich history of the prohibition era, the brewery felt that Chicago was a natural fit.

“Chicago has one of the most exciting craft beer scenes in the country and with the city’s infamous reputation in the 20’s and 30’s, it seems like a no-brainer for the brand. We’re thrilled to bring Speakeasy to the market,” said Brandon Borgel, Director of Sales and Marketing. “I think Al Capone would approve.”

Speakeasy draws inspiration from the era of bootleggers and flappers, with West Coast-style beers like Big Daddy IPA, Prohibition Ale, Payback Porter and Tallulah Extra Pale among many other nefarious offerings in both bottle and draft. An initial teaser push began in late March with the brewery’s trademark “shifty eyes” making appearances in locations across Chicago. Also part of the initial launch, Speakeasy will have a significant presence at Chicago Craft Beer Week May 16-26 at finer craft beer bars, restaurants and bottle shops across Chicago.
