How Police Tracked Down $30K In Stolen Beer

The original story is here, and now some interesting details of how police (and beer lovers) tracked down the thief.  From the Coloradoan:

Police were already searching for Dickinson after his former employers at Avery Brewing in Boulder noticed that cases of usual and uncirculated beers had disappeared from their warehouse shortly after he was fired. At the time of his Feb. 14 arrest, Dickinson was working as a brewer at Black Bottle Brewery in Fort Collins.

An Avery employee touring Black Bottle noticed the name "Hellvis" on brewery paperwork - a Dickinson signature - and tipped off owner Sean Nook that Dickinson was sought in connection with the thefts of beers with names like Rogue Old Crustacean, Isabelle Proximus and Sui Generis Barrel-Aged Sour Ale.

According to police, Black Bottle's owner, Sean Nook, was already preparing to fire Dickinson for lying about his criminal record and stealing. Nook helped Boulder and Fort Collins police connect Dickinson to the missing beer, police said.

At the same time, Dickinson had aroused suspicions because he offered to sell some rare Avery beers to Choice City Butcher & Deli, setting off alarm bells for the owner, who contacted Avery. Nook also contacted Avery, and everyone went to the police.
