Saturday, March 23 and Sunday, March 24, Country Boy Brewing will be welcoming Chris Poel, head brewer at Namazu, Japan based Baird Brewing. The visit is part of collaboration brewing project between Country Boy and Baird.

On Saturday, the brewery will host a meet and greet with Poel beginning at 2:00 pm. Poel will also be giving a lecture on his experiences moving from the world of home-brewing to being a professional brewer in Japan.

Despite the distance separating them, Country Boy and Baird’s share a close relationship and history. While in Japan, Daniel “DH” Harrison, one of Country Boy’s owners, was introduced to the world of craft beer and brewing at the Fish-market Taproom in Namazu, which is owned by Bryan Baird, owner of Baird Brewing.

“Their passion and drive to make great beer helped create Country Boy,” said Harrison of Baird and Poel. “They are like our mentors, and we hold their opinions on beer in the highest regard. Without Bryan’s influence I’m not sure Country Boy would even exist.”

On Sunday, Poel will join with the brewers at Country Boy to create Angry Amos, a combination of Country Boy’s Amos Moses Brown Ale and Baird’s Angry Boy Brown Ale. The finished product will then be aged in Maker’s Mark Bourbon Barrel’s until the beer’s release during a visit from Bryan Baird in August.

In addition, several Baird Brewing beers will be featured on tap alongside Country Boy’s line-up of their own beers throughout the weekend. “This is a great opportunity to showcase what’s going on in beer, not just here in Lexington, but quite literally around the world,” said Harrison.
