We brought you news that issues with the sprinkler system may kill the Lagunitas Brewing Chicago taproom to save the brewery. In the current design the taproom would be elevated in the center of the 300,000 square foot brewery. This lead to a considerable distance to travel in the event of a fire and considerable costs to add a sprinkler system capable of covering a 300,000 sq ft building with 50-foot ceilings.
Tony Magee reported in today that while the final decision will be made on Friday, it looks like the taproom will face a significant delay at best. The brewery is planning to be kegging by Oct (equipment arriving in July), with the taproom delayed until at least June (originally scheduled for March). Read the tweets from the bottom up.
UPDATE: It’s now looking like patrons will get to walk through a 180-foot tunnel through the warehouse to get to the taproom….and Tony is promising something “Wacky” in store for the taproom tunnel like a lightshow or laser show.
