Victory Brewing Wins Green Business Award

imageExciting green-news from Victory Brewing:

On Thursday, January 24, Victory Brewing Company was honored by the Chester County Chamber of Business & Industry for our substantial results in recycling and resource conservation. Their Green Business Award recognized us as a business that uses natural resources in an efficient and sustainable manner, achieving both environmental benefits and cost savings. Restaurant Manager, Ivy Hunter, was accompanied by our CEO & Brewmaster, Ron Barchet, to receive this honor at the ceremony.

What did it take to become the area’s leading green business? The story lies in the numbers, as these are the totals for various items recycled:

44.47 tons (88,940 lbs.) of cardboard

1.77 tons (3,540 lbs.) of PET plastic

5.49 tons (10,980 lbs.) of plastic film

70 tons (140,000 lbs.) of organic waste sent for local composting

We are especially proud of our efforts to divert our restaurant’s organic waste (egg shells, coffee grounds, celery stumps, etc.) from a landfill to more productive use. You can view our composting process here.

Imagine the volume of compressed, used shrink wrap that totals 10,980 lbs.? Staggering. Better yet, think of the barrels of oil that the recycling of this material saves.

Fortunately, being a part of a community with a conscience here in Chester County, our achievement has been amplified by others. State Senators Andrew E. Dinniman and John C. Rafferty, Jr. cited Victory as “a leader in the community and a model that is worthy of emulation.” State Representative Becky Corbin personally appeared at Victory on January 29 to present an official Citation and offering “best wishes for continued growth and exceptional service in the years to come.”

For further local perspective on this honor, please see the Daily Local News article on the topic. We sincerely hope that this attention to a business that is simply doing its part for a greener future encourages others to act on behalf of those who hope to enjoy abundant natural resources in the future.
