VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Oct. 15, 2012/mbb/) - Following the record sales of a BC wide beer launch, Steamworks Brewing Company's new line of bottled craft took home first place honours for their Pilsner at this weekend's third annual British Columbia Beer Awards ceremony.
Saturday's Awards showcased and celebrated the best of locally made beer, where breweries from across the province, including Lighthouse Beer and Red Racer were recognized.
With seventeen years of experience as a Gastown craft brewer, Steamworks launched into the bottled beer market in late summer 2012 to rave reviews and impressive sales. To date the company's' Pilsner and Pale Ale have been awarded as the gold and bronze medal winner of the 2012 Canadian Beer Awards. Currently Steamworks Pumpkin Ale is a near sell out at local liquor stores.
Steamworks' foray into bottled craft was a strategic move on behalf of owner Eli Gershkovitch who courted one of Canada's leading craft beer experts, Walter Cosman, to join the brewery and act as President of Steamworks Brewing Company.
According to Walter, "Recognition like the BC Beer Awards is extremely significant to local brewers like Steamworks, because it highlights how much incredible craft is being made in our own backyard and much that can motivate and impact our economy."
