The company has honored St. Crispin, the patron saint of cobblers, each year since its founding by collecting shoes and boots for those in need.

St. Crispin’s Day Background – We Band of Brothers

Twin brothers Crispin and Crispinian, are the patron saints of cobblers, tanners and leather workers. While travelling to London to seek apprenticeships, the brothers came across a shoemaker's workshop in Faversham, Kent and decided to travel no further and remain and learn their trade. The brothers did good deeds by day and made shoes at night.

In addition to their sainthood, they are commemorated in the name of the nearby ancient pub, The Crispin and Crispianus in London Road, Strood, Kent, where Charles Dickens would stop during journeys to and from his home in Gad's Hill Place, Higham. The pub is featured in his essay The Uncommercial Traveller.

St Crispin's Day is renowned for the battles that have been fought on its anniversary: Battle of Leyte Gulf, Pacific 1944, the Battle of Balaklava (Charge of the Light Brigade), Crimea 1854. And most famously, the Battle of Agincourt, on Oct. 25, 1415, where English forces with their longbows and outnumbered 3-to-1, defeated the French with their crossbows. This famous victory was immortalized by William Shakespeare in Henry V, the St. Crispin’s Day "Band of Brothers" speech.
