From Jennie Hatton:

(COOPERSTOWN, NY, 5 Sep 2012/mbb) – This fall, Brewery Ommegang (656 County Highway 33, 607-544-1800) will debut a new beer, Scythe & Sickle Harvest Ale, an amber ale brewed with a variety of malts, including pils, rye flakes and oat flakes, for incredible depth of flavor and a hint of natural sweetness.  Scythe & Sickle brings new life to autumn beer lists for those looking for an alternative to Oktoberfests and pumpkin ales.

“Scythe & Sickle is our foray into honoring the harvest season, taking the finest malts and blending them seamlessly into a rich amber ale,” says Ommegang Brew Master Phil Leinhart.  “Farming is about precision, timing and care, and this gently sweet ale is our testament to the craft and care of farming.”

Brewed with balance in mind, Scythe & Sickle boasts a smooth, creamy mouthfeel with light toastiness.  It is bright amber in color from the mixed malts and delicately hopped to counter, rather than overpower, the malt profile.  It is available exclusively from September until November.

To celebrate the release of Scythe & Sickle, Brewery Ommegang will be showcasing the beer during three special area events featuring pay-as-you-go draughts of Scythe & Sickle and other rare Ommegang specialty beers.  All events are from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m.:

Tuesday, September 18 at Iron Abbey (680 Easton Road in Horsham, 215-956-9600);
Wednesday, September 19 at Devil’s Den (1148 South 11th Street, 215-339-0855);  and
Thursday, September 20 at Belgian Cafe (2407 Green Street, 215-235-3500).

The beer is also available throughout the region at top bottles shops and discerning craft beer bars.
