Here’s another new Kickstarter campaign…this time for a guide to Portland’s Craft Beer Scene by bicycle.
PORTLAND, Ore., Sept. 11, 2012/mbb/ - Hop in the Saddle: A Guide to Portland's Craft Beer Scene, by Bike is an essential travel guide to two of the things that make the city of Portland so unique: Bicycle transportation and ultra-locally brewed beer. Written by two Lonely Planet-trained guidebook authors, this new book is all about helping locals and visitors alike sample the best craft beer Portland has to offer while staying fit and keeping their carbon footprint to a minimum.
The authors recently launched a Kickstarter campaign to help fund the production of the book. Through Thursday, September 20th, the public can purchase an exclusive set of rewards that include signed copies of Hop in the Saddle and limited edition goods designed by the book's creators and made by skilled Portland artisans.
Custom goods include locally crafted bottle openers, knit beer koozies bearing the book's signature red and gold colors, a brewery tour with Portland Pedicab, and bicycle panniers made in Portland by Queen Bee Creations, designed to safely and sturdily carry bottles of beer. One lucky backer will commission a custom beer bicycle, complete with custom beer rack and bottle opener, hand built to your specifications by Portland-based award-winning frame builder Pereira Cycles.
Hop in the Saddle features five comprehensive chapters, each covering one of Portland's five "quadrants," in a 96-page guide that links the best PDX beer spots with the city's first-class cycling boulevards and bike-friendly streets. The book features five Portland beer routes, five "bike nerd" extended routes, five detailed cue sheets, 25 breweries, six bottle shops, and 25 bars and restaurants. For those who prefer not to pedal, the book stands alone as the first-ever guide to Portland's booming craft beer scene. And even teetotalers will find this to be one of the more accessible guides to discovering PDX's bike-y-est roads and destinations on two wheels.
The book is written by nationally renowned beer writer Lucy Burningham and bike touring expert Ellee Thalheimer, author of Cycling Sojourner: A Guide to the Best Multi-Day Tours in Oregon, and designed by Laura Cary.
The authors are available for interviews, bicycle rides, and visits to breweries. Review copies of the book are also available.
