An interesting “Scoring for Education” initiative coming out of Miller Lite. This from PRNewsWire:
DALLAS,TX Aug. 29, 2012 /PRNewswire/mbb/ -- Miller Lite, the Dallas Cowboys and the Adelante U.S. Educational Leadership Fund are partnering to support educational programming and resources for Hispanics through the "Scoring for Education" campaign.
For the second consecutive year, the brand will contribute a portion of the proceeds from sales of select cans of Miller Lite throughout Texas (excluding Houston) and Oklahoma from September 1 through October 31 to Adelante – a national nonprofit organization committed to providing resources to Latinos seeking to achieve a higher education.
With the support of Miller Lite, Adelante also will conduct educational parent workshops throughout Texas to provide parents with the tools to ensure their families have the opportunity to pursue a higher education. The Miller Lite-sponsored workshops will take place in San Antonio, Dallas, McAllen and El Paso. They will feature former Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman Tony Casillas, as well as U.S. Congressional Gold Medal Award recipient and former MillerCoors 2010 Lider of the year Raul Magdaleno. The parent workshops will cover topics ranging from financial aid to exploring career choices.
In addition, Casillas will participate in retail appearances in markets such as San Antonio, Dallas, McAllen, Austin, Lubbock, Corpus Christi, Laredo, El Paso and Tulsa.
"The Miller Lite 'Scoring for Education' program is a great way to give back and engage with the community," Casillas states. "I encourage legal-drinking-age football fans across the state of Texas and Oklahoma to purchase select cans of Miller Lite and know that they are supporting the next generation of Latino leadership and a great cause for the future of our communities."
Magdaleno adds, "I firmly believe that if you work hard and dedicate yourself to pursuing your dreams, anything is possible. Miller Lite is facilitating that dream by providing financial support to Adelante."
MillerCoors has a long history of contributing to communities around the country through signature initiatives such as the MillerCoors Lideres program and the MillerCoors Urban Entrepreneur Series (MUES). Lideres celebrates and rewards 12 Latino leaders annually and donates $25,000 to one Lider toward implementation of a leadership program in their local community. MUES annually recognizes and rewards five small business owners with $125,000 in business grants.
