Earlier this week we broke the news of Tod Mott leaving Portsmouth Brewery and taking the “Kate the Great” name with him to an upcoming venture in southern Maine.  Now comes word that Tyler Jones, his former assistant brewer will take the reins at Portsmouth.  news from Seacoastonline:

Tyler Jones, former assistant brewer at The Portsmouth Brewery, will replace long-time head brewer Tod Mott, according to a release from the brewery.

Jones was Mott’s assistant brewer for four years before moving across town for a brewing position at the Smuttynose Brewing Co. in December 2011. In addition to a brewing degree from University of California-Davis, Jones has a great set of practical brewing skills and a long home brewing tenure, the release stated.

Brewery officials said Jones’ initial game plan is to offer more Portsmouth Brewery beer on tap. He has already created several highly regarded beers for the brewery including “Gose,” “Ginga Ninja” and “Berliner Weiss,” which is currently on tap.

Jones will work with assistants Brian Routhier and Matt Tarpey. “They’re talented brewers and I want them to feel a part of creating new beers,” he said, “and we won’t shy away from brewing an imperial stout either.”

Mott’s last day on July 19 will include a torch passing ceremony and toast. Details will be announced on the Portsmouth Brewery Facebook page.
