Thankfully we talk more about brewery openings…but none the less….Sunset Boulevard Brewing will be closing it’s doors in Kalamazoo,MI. This from Mlive:
Citing recent crime in the area as the primary reason, Sunset Boulevard Brewing Co. has closed and plans to move to downtown Kalamazoo, the owner said.
“We’re trying to adjust in the first quarter of the game instead of at the end of the game," said Sunset Boulevard Brewing Co. owner Jake Hambright, who owns the business with Teresa Bailey.
The brewery, which opened at 4212 Portage St. in January, posted this message on its Facebook page at around 1 a.m. today:
"Attn: Fans and Loyal Customers. We are going to be moving to a location downtown. We were thinking of holding off till spring, but with a meth explosion almost 2 weeks ago and a police stand off last week, from another meth incident resulting in an hostage situation. A person from the neighborhood and a valued customer being beat in the parking lot while walking. We've had cars vandalized, resulting in filed Police Reports. We don't feel that it's a safe spot for our employees or customers. We have asked the property management to Fix lighting in parking lot but lights still remain unsatisfactory. The happy news is we will be relocating downtown so you will be able to soon and enjoy not only Bells, but Sunset Blvd and Arcadia's beer all downtown. Stayed tuned and while we are waiting all mug club memberships will be put on hold. Hold on to all coupons, they will be honored when we open."
