Good news from Delmarva Now:
MILTON -- Just three months after getting its newly acquired 39.7-acre parcel rezoned for light industrial use, Dogfish Head Craft Brewery has been given a green light to begin construction on a 102,500-square-foot warehouse.
The Milton Planning and Zoning Commission conditionally approved final construction plans April 23. Planners are still waiting for a final approval from the Delaware Department of Transportation.
The warehouse will be located on Atlantic Street, east of Round Pole Branch. Dogfish Head Chief Operating Officer Nick Benz said it will allow the back end of the business -- packaging and warehouse operations, as well as shipping and getting raw materials -- to expand.
"This gives us the ability to grow where, up until this point, we were painted in a corner a bit," he said. "We had very limited means and opportunities to grow. This has cleared that obstacle for us."
The brewery will produce 171,000 barrels of beer in 2012. While it hopes to expand to 500,000 barrels of production within the next 10 years, Benz said there are no business plans to do so at this time. He said construction is taking place now in anticipation of the increased production. Full details here.
