New Belgium Brewing Closer to Choosing Asheville, NC Too- UPDATE

imageWe saw Sierra Nevada choose the Asheville, NC are for their new east coast facility, and now Asheville’s WLOS News 13 (ABC Affiliate) is reporting that New Belgium Brewing is actively considering Asheville, NC for their east coast facility.  New Belgium has been stating the choices are narrowed to Philadelphia, PA & Asheville, NC.  With a decision expected in April, it is an interesting story to see officials from NB are in the Asheville area.  Sources are now saying properties are surveyed AND under contract!

From WLOS News 13:

…sources tell News 13 city, county and state leaders are working on an incentive plan to attract the growing craft brewer to a site in the river district.

Sources say the old livestock yard on Craven street has been visited by New Belgium officials in recent days. The site is now being rezoned by its owners from Urban Village back to a less restrictive River District. A public hearing was scheduled to hear the re-zoning request this evening (Wednesday). News 13 has also learned that the owner of the old tobacco warehouse property adjacent to the stockyard has a sales contract on the property. The owner would not say who it is that made the purchase offer. People who rent space at the stockyard say there's been a lot of activity at the property in recent weeks and they've all heard talk that it's to prepare the site for New Belgium.
