I’m excited to report the head brewer for Iron Hill Chestnut Hill, PA has been named, and it will be Paul Rutherford (formerly from Iron Hill Lancaster). This from Jennie Hatton:
CHESTNUT HILL, PA – Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant (8400 Germantown Avenue, 215-948-5600) is thrilled to announce their new management team: Head Brewer Paul Rutherford, Executive Chef Mario Romero and General Manager Matt Radebach. On Friday, November 18 beginning at 10 a.m., the three talented, hospitality rising stars will oversee the brewery delivery as they work towards Iron Hill’s much-anticipated opening in early January.
“This will be a big day for us, we’re thrilled to put our brewery in place and get down to the business of making exceptional beer in our new home,” says Rutherford.
The custom-built brewery is a Specific Mechanical Systems 10hL capable of producing 1,500 barrels of beer per year. Two brewing tanks, seven fermenters and 10 serving tanks will be transported to Chestnut Hill via tracker trailer, unloaded and then carefully fitted into the new brew house.
Rutherford has worked with Iron Hill for over seven years. Most recently, he served as head brewer at their Lancaster location. Rutherford’s love of beer started when he began home brewing. When he decided to pursue a career in the beer industry, he attended the prestigious Seibel Institute of Technology in Chicago where he studied brewing science. He also studied at the institute’s sister school in Munich, Germany. His favorite beer to brew is in an IPA.
Also coming to Chestnut Hill from Iron Hill’s Lancaster location is Executive Chef Mario Romero. Chef Romero has been with the company for the past three years, and is a graduate of the culinary program at the Art Institute of Philadelphia. Before coming to Iron Hill, Chef Romero worked in several top kitchens in Philadelphia and New Jersey, including the Striped Bass, Tangerine and Kitchen 233.
General Manager Matt Radebach has been a member of the Iron Hill team for eight years. He started as a server in their Newark, DE location as a summer job, and worked his way up to general manager, with stints in Wilmington, DE, West Chester, PA and North Wales, PA. He is a hands-on leader who recently completed the company’s six-month culinary program to gain a deeper understanding of back-of-house operations. Together, Rutherford, Romero and Radebach are the youngest opening team in Iron Hill’s 15 year history.
